Internet reacts to Thad Matta turning down Georgia job
Thad Matta won’t be the new Georgia coach. That leaves the Bulldogs to start their search again.
Matta turned down an offer from Georgia on Wednesday. The former Ohio State coach didn’t have a job this season, as he stepped down from the Buckeyes in 2017 because of health issues. It is unknown if that played a factor in Matta’s decision.
Now, the Bulldogs will need to find more candidates to succeed Mark Fox as coach. Fox was fired by Georgia over the weekend after nine seasons at the helm.
Here’s some reaction from Twitter to Matta’s decision:
Same old, same old for UGA basketball. https://t.co/VR0fEmYwBu

Why did Matta turn down Georgia? I wouldn't.

Thad Matta is an idiot for not accepting a SEC job. Best conference in basketball.

Thad Matta has turned down the Georgia job. Interesting to see where their search goes next. As many pointed out yesterday, Georgia State's Ron Hunter should expect a call.

I think we’re going to find out real soon how serious Matta is about getting back into coaching. If he goes to Pitt or another job, we’re going to look very, very stupid.
But if he sits it out another year, he just wanted those Buckeye paychecks.

Sounds like UGA did its due diligence and thoroughly vetted Matta before presenting him with a solid offer. Disappointed it didn't work out. But if he did his due diligence as well, can't blame him for passing it up. #FireADGM
