UGA and Georgia Tech, which rarely go head-to-head in football recruiting, are battling it out for the one of the top remaining big men in basketball.

Rodney Howard, a 6-foot-10, 230-pound center who is in the process of receiving a release from Ole Miss, announced the Bulldogs and the Yellow Jackets as his two finalists on Saturday evening.

The 3-star recruit added “Decision coming soon.”

Howard is from Roswell, Ga., and signed with Ole Miss last November. He has requested a release from the letter of intent that he signed with the Rebels.

Why did Howard cancel Ole Miss? ““It was just really I didn’t feel like I wanted to be there anymore,” he told the AJC’s Ken Suguira.

The main attraction to Howard about UGA appears to be the opportunity to play with Anthony Edwards, who is the nation’s No. 2 overall basketball recruit for 2019 – and the highest-rated prospect the Bulldogs have ever signed.
