It’s time for some quick Bulldog bracketology
Welcome to your one-stop shop for all the relevant UGA football news and takes every Monday through Friday. How much work does Georgia hoops have to do to earn a spot in the NCAA tournament. Here goes nothin’.
Bracketology guru has Bulldogs among first four teams out
UGA basketball is about to enter the meaty portion of its SEC slate, so it’s finally time to crack open the books and get to studying some bracketology. As has been the case the last few seasons, UGA will be a bubble team and could swing in or out of the tournament based on just a few results. Joe Lunardi, ESPN’s king of bracketology, has Georgia as one of the first four teams out, along with Wichita State, Rhode Island and Marquette, a team that beat UGA in December.
Over at SEC Country, Kyle Tucker did his own bracketology of just SEC teams to see which ones in the conference have the best chance to make March Madness. So far, he has Kentucky, Florida and South Carolina in, Georgia and Arkansas on the bubble and Alabama as a long shot. Here’s what Tucker said about UGA:
Mark Fox’s team lost by 6 points to South Carolina and in overtime at Florida, then won each of the four SEC games it should’ve. At Texas A&M and home against Alabama this week also fall into that latter category, but neither of those is a gimme. The Bulldogs need to take care of business, though, because a nasty four-game stretch is coming: Texas, at Kentucky, at South Carolina, Florida. That’s the top three teams in the league, plus the SEC-Big 12 Challenge. We’ll know by early February whether Fox & Co. are legit.
That list really gets to the heart of the matter. Because of how poor UGA was during the out-of-conference portion of the season, it has to get some big wins in the SEC. The first two chances the Bulldogs had, against South Carolina and Florida, they came up short. Georgia needs a win or two against the likes of Kentucky, South Carolina or Florida. The Bulldogs probably also require a win against Texas and to pretty much win out against the rest of its SEC competition to make it into the tournament. Anything less than 2-2 over that aforementioned four-game stretch in late January and early February will be all she wrote for the Bulldogs. It’s put up or shut up time.

There are only a few weeks left until signing day. That means the Bulldogs are running out of time to make good impressions on their remaining targets. This weekend, at least 11 Class of 2017 visitors, six of whom are committed to Georgia, will be in Athens to see what the program has to offer.

Another look inside the indoor facility
Georgia football’s video department keeps pumping out videos featuring players doing offseason workouts in the new indoor practice facility. I still don’t quite believe it’s real, so if y’all could keep making these videos, that would be great.
