The Tom Crean era has begun in Athens, Ga.
Georgia is set to introduce Crean as its new coach on Friday at 3 p.m. ET, but his arrival in Athens from Florida and his first message as coach have his tenure off and running.
Crean and his family landed in Athens around noon Friday, and almost as soon as he got off the plane, he greeted the handful of Georgia fans who had ventured to the airport to welcome him. And then he took pictures with them, putting smiles on everyone’s faces.
The Georgia basketball program documented it all in a fun video:

Once he got settled on campus, Crean put on a Georgia basketball shirt and enthusiastically delivered this message, directly addressing Georgia fans:

“Make no mistake about this: This is a basketball program inside of a great university that can compete for championships,” Crean said in the video. “I cannot wait to work with our current student-athletes and our future Bulldogs.”
Crean and Georgia agreed to a six-year contract Thursday night, signaling the start of a new era for Bulldogs basketball after Mark Fox led the program for nine seasons.
Crean will be introduced exactly one year to the day that he was fired by Indiana in 2017.
DawgNation will have full coverage of Crean’s introduction.
