Georgia lost to South Carolina last weekend in stunning fashion. By now, it seems everyone in our lives has weighed in on that one.
Coffee baristas. Church groups. Dentists. Former preschool teachers. Golfing buddies. Gym friends. The trifecta of all the Amazon, Fed Ex and UPS delivery guys.
Who have we not heard a lot from yet? That’s the current commits and several of the top targets for Georgia football in the 2020 class and beyond.
DawgNation.com has been able to collect the thoughts of several high school prospects who fit into one of those two categories when it comes to that topic.
South Carolina 20, Georgia 17 (2 OT)
How did the UGA commits feel about that?
5-star OT Broderick Jones: “My response is every game is not going to go in your favor. There are always some hiccups you are going to run into and some brick walls. Some games are not going to be going your way. Your quarterback might be messing up. Your line might be messing up. Everybody has just got to be in sync. I think they can get that done. One game does not affect their season, though.”
Jones rates as the nation’s No. 2 OT and No. 23 overall prospect for the 247Sports Composite ratings. He was actually at that South Carolina game on Saturday.
4-star WR Marcus Rosemy: “I did watch it. It was just one of those games when they didn’t play to their maximum capability. The lost do not affect me, it’s just one loss. It happens. They just have to bounce back.”
Romsey is now up to the nation’s No. 5 WR on those same rankings. That places him at No. 36 overall for 2020. He said the loss didn’t affect the strength of his pledge to Georgia. It did affect him in terms of his future team taking one on the chin and it will serve as a reminder for his time at Georgia, too.
More Rosemy: “Oh, of course, it did,” when asked if the game affected him at all. It’s definitely a learning lesson for me so when I get there. I know not to perform to the level they played like.”
4-star OL Joshua Braun: “I’m disappointed. Always want them to win. Bad games happen though, and they have another game this week, and the week after. I am certain they will respond in a big way against Kentucky. Everything is still ahead of them, and now they have a few doubters that will motivate them.”
4-star CB Jalen Kimber: “I felt like we didn’t play or best football. That game, it does affect me because I don’t like seeing my future school lose and also that’s a game we should’ve won easily. While watching it I just don’t think we executed well enough to get the dub.”
4-star QB Carson Beck: “I did watch the game and I feel like every team is going to have a bad game, but it’s about how you respond that shows the true character of your team. I fully expect Coach Smart to get them back on track the rest of the season.”
3-star PK Jared Zirkel: “Obviously it was a tough game, Rodrigo had one blocked early in the game that I do not think was his fault, a block or a miss always cause some mental stress but I think he hit the potential game saver well it just didn’t go as planned. Rodrigo is one of the best if not the best in college football. To be 11 for 11 or something like that before the block is very impressive. I’m sure he will bounce back just fine. The loss does not change my mind at all in my commitment in any way.”
4-star junior DB commit David Daniel: “You don’t get better if you win all the time. This is one ‘L’ of very few for Georgia. No, it does not change me (and how he feels about Georgia) but you can see the heart these guys have to fight in that game.”
4-star junior DB commit Bralyn Oliver (who lives in South Carolina): “I watched it. It hurt to see us lose. I think we sleep on them a little too much you know. But we had some mistakes but we just gotta go harder on Saturday. I haven’t heard enough of it (talk from local USC fans) yet though. My high school Kevin Smith actually played at USC so yeah I’m getting it hard down here.”

What did the undecided UGA recruiting targets have to say about that?
5-star senior ILB target Noah Sewell: “We win some and we lose some. What matters is how we answer back and how we bounce back.”
4-star senior CB Dontae Manning: “No, sir,” when asked a question if the loss affected his perception of the program. “Everybody loses games. Things. happen. But that’s where you either improve or continue to do bad.”
4-star senior DE Zykeivous Walker: “It doesn’t affect my view of the program. They are still a top 3 school for me and it’s a good school surrounded by good players and coaches. You win some and you lose some it’s how you overcome it.”
5-star junior QB Caleb Williams: “Yeah, I saw the loss. I could only watch the highlights and its really hard to win a game with four turnovers.”
4-star junior LB Barrett Carter: “It is football. No team is perfect. Upsets are going to happen. We get upset. It is a part of the game. It is just [about] how you are going to bounce back from it and it doesn’t change my viewpoint on Georgia at all. Georgia is still one of the top schools in the country. They are still going to fight for a national championship.”
4-star junior RB Lovasea’ Carroll (who was at the game): “It really didn’t affect me. I understand they lost to South Carolina from where they were as a top team like number three in the nation. To lose to an unranked team. Yet honestly I didn’t think anything negative about Georgia with it. At the end of the day, Georgia made plenty of mistakes and South Carolina capitalized on them. Any team can get beat like that.”
4-star junior OT Micah Morris: “It showed just how serious SEC football is and that you have to bring your A-game, every game and the way they bounce back this week will show me something about their program.”
