The Georgia offensive line has been one of the strengths under Georgia coach Kirby Smart. But the architect of that line — Sam Pittman — could be in line for a new job.

Multiple reports — the first of which came from Yahoo’s Pete Thamel — have indicated that Pittman is now a serious candidate for the Arkansas job. It is one of two SEC head coaching jobs available, with the other being Missouri.

Pittman has only been a head coach at the college level once and that came at Hutchinson Community College during the 1992-93 seasons. He has become one of the top offensive line coaches in the country. Pittman has been at Georgia since the start of the 2016 season. He received a salary and title bump last offseason, as he is also the associate head coach for the Bulldogs.

Arkansas is familiar with Pittman, as he served as the offensive line coach at the school from 2013-15. In addition to his coaching abilities, Pittman’s recruiting abilities are also well-documented. He put together Georgia’s entire five-man offensive line recruiting class, led by 5-star prospect Broderick Jones.

Kirby Smart was asked earlier this year about Pittman and the possibility of him being a head coach.

“Sam’s got an incredible personality and kids gravitate to Sam’s personality,” Smart said. “He’s a tremendous asset for our program. He’d make an incredible head coach given the opportunity.”
