ATHENS — Georgia has a lot of potential All-SEC players on defense. For now, though, it only returns one player proven enough to warrant preseason honors, at least to one long-running survey.

Dominick Sanders, the junior safety, is on the second-team All-SEC list put out by Al.com (the Birmingham News), which is compiled via votes from the league’s sports information directors.

Sanders is coming off a year in which the AP actually named him first-team All-SEC. He was the only Georgia defensive player to make that first or second team last year too.

This year, Georgia has hopes for both outside linebackers (Davin Bellamy and Lorenzo Carter), at least one defensive lineman (Trent Thompson), and another defensive back or two (Malkom Parrish and Quincy Mauger).

But for now, Sanders is clearly viewed as the lone proven commodity on Georgia’s defense.

The Al.com survey, released Wednesday, had three Georgia players on first team: Center Brandon Kublanow, guard Greg Pyke (who may move to tackle) and tailback Nick Chubb.
