JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — This will be the first Georgia-Florida game since 1989 that hasn’t seen Steve Spurrier or Mark Richt roaming the sideline.

But Spurrier will be here.

Now in the role as an official ambassador for Florida, Spurrier is attending Saturday’s game, wearing a blue Gators shirt, and blue shoes.

This is the first Georgia-Florida since 1963 that Spurrier has attended as a fan, he told Florida writers in an informal gaggle in the press box. (Spurrier doesn’t like to do many interviews in his new role.)

Richt, of course, is otherwise occupied, coaching Miami at Notre Dame. He and Spurrier overlapped only one year: 2001, a game that Spurier won, as he did many times against the Bulldogs.

Spurrier was 11-1 against Georgia as Florida’s head coach. He wasn’t as successful when he went to South Carolina, going 5-6, including a 52-20 Georgia rout last year, in one of Spurrier’s final games at South Carolina.
