ATHENS — After giving a brief overview of the third and final scrimmage, coach Mark Richt announced the four captains for the week one game against Louisiana-Monroe.
Senior tackle John Theus and sixth-year lineman Kolton Houston were named offensive captains, while the linebacker duo of senior Jordan Jenkins and junior Leonard Floyd earned defensive captain spots.
“Recent tradition has been that we name captains on a weekly basis based on the performances in the game and how they perform off the field as well,” Richt said. “At the end of the season we vote for permanent captains. But we based these captains after what happened from the end of last season until today. It is a pretty great honor to be named the first captains of the year because it does encompass an awful lot of time and energy. There were a couple of other guys who were good candidates.”
Richt opted to not name a special teams captain for the first game.
