Georgia football recruiting: September 1 arrives with a bang for 2023 class

Want to attack every day with the latest Georgia football recruiting info? That’s the Intel. This entry provides a good snapshot of the annual September 1 rite of passage for every junior class in regard to the NCAA recruiting calendar.

Those passionate folks out there who follow Georgia football recruiting know what all of those hashtags mean.

There’s a new one to add to the bloodline now: #SAVAGESZN23

That’s the hashtag the Georgia football program has adopted for its social media promotion for the 2023 class. Per NCAA rules, the first time that a rising junior can hear from a member institution in regard to a recruiting pitch is on Sept. 1 of their junior year.

Prior to that, all of the contacts between the schools and a prospective student-athlete have to have been initiated by the player or their high school coach. The school could never reach out directly.

Elite prospects over the years have traditionally set up regular times to call the coaches that are already recruiting them each week on a limited basis.

It seems helpful to this discussion to note the Bulldogs were reaching out and showing the September 1 love to names like Big Bear Alexander, Marquis Groves-Killebrew, Christen Miller, CJ Washington and Mykell Williams a year ago on this date. Those examples were among the dozens of edits sent out by UGA with the #Bo22Moves hashtag back on Sept. 1, 2020.
