This Sentell’s Intel rep on Georgia football recruiting has the latest with 5-star sophomore EDGE LaDamion Guyton. He ranks as the nation’s No. 1 EDGE and the No. 1 overall prospect for 2027 on the 247Sports Composite. The On3 Industry Ranking also has him at No. 1 overall.

LaDamion Guyton has a certain effect on people. No, we’re not talking quarterbacks because that might require some different phrasing.

His position coach at Savannah Christian shared his thoughts on all things Guyton last season. It still stands as our favorite story about the 5-star prospect.

It goes beyond the nicknames “Dame” and “LG” that Guyton has already picked up.

“Guyton is one of the most consistently aggressive players I’ve ever seen,” Savannah Christian’s Diontae Trawick said. “He reminds me of a young Khalil Mack. I remember hearing a story about Khalil Mack and they say when he comes at you it is like a whirling tornado of arms and feet. It is like ‘Holy crap what do I do’ and when I hear that story, I think of ‘Dame’ because when he comes you are getting all of him every single play. Every single snap.”

“Good luck.”

The feeling there was he is already a special talent, but also capable of a lot more.

“He’s going to be like a Micah Parson type of player,” Trawick said. “That’s what I feel like. High praise but Dame has all these offers. He’s 15. He looks like a grown man. To think about where he is at now, the ceiling is ... .”

Trawick never finished his thought. He just looked into the clouds.

Doesn’t that story sound like the Georgia Bulldog defenders that have been ripping through the NFL playoffs this month?

Guyton finished the 2024 season with 52 tackles and 13.5 TFLs through his first nine games. He also had 6.5 sacks. It doesn’t look like his totals on MaxPreps.com include the final game of his sophomore year.

He also had 84 tackles, 19.5 TFLs, 10 sacks and two forced fumbles in his freshman year.

The 6-foot-3, 230-pound Guyton was back in Athens for the first big “Junior Day” weekend earlier this month.

“It was a great time,” he said. “Glad I was able to be there.”

This was different than his other visits.

“Just was great being able to connect with the coaches on not such of a crazy day as game day,” he told DawgNation.

The trip also offered a chance to assess how his former Savannah Christian teammate was doing. That’s the freshman Elijah Griffin. Griffin was rated as the nation’s No. 1 DT prospect in the last cycle.

Did Guyton check in with Griffin?

“Yes of course,” he said. “Had to. He loves it and is having a great time.”

That’s something to pay attention to. We believe - we’ve heard the same from folks around Guyton- that he will be watching Griffin’s success rate at UGA closely.

If Griffin tears it up and becomes a freshman All-American or an early impact guy in the SEC, that will create quite the road map for him to do the same. While he has his own path, those two players do respect one another a great deal.

That UGA visit came after significant change in Guyton’s world. He opted to transfer from one local Savannah power to another at Benedictine for his junior season.

He said things are going well for him with his new team.

“Definitely wasn’t an easy decision or process but I do beieve it was the right choice and I had lots of help with that,” he told DawgNation.

Where do things stand for him with UGA coming out of that visit?

“I’m in a very good standing with UGA,” he said. “Don’t have a problem with anyone there. Think highly of the program and everyonce included.”

What does he like best about the chance to play in Athens?

“The straight-up honesty for sure,” he said.

What sort of honesty?

“Like about the what the future holds and their plans toward all of their players.”

We’ve heard that from a lot of 5-star targets about UGA. The Bulldogs do not sugar coat a thing. At the risk of losing them, they will still tell the top-tier guys Georgia will be the toughest trial of their lives and it might not even be for them.

That “Georgia Way” isn’t for everyone.

The elite targets will hear the same things from the current players at UGA on those big visit weekend. They want them to know how hard Georgia is for anyone who wants to rise to the top of the depth chart.

While it has been the rage lately, Guyton said he’s not looking at reclassifying to the 2026 cycle.

“No,” he said. “Probably won’t do that but I’ve definitley been thinking [about it.]”

We’ve seen that happen a lot over the last week with a couple of 5-star prospects from his class. 5-star TE Mark Bowman and 5-star RB Ezavier Crowell were rated as the No. 1 prospects for 2027 at their positions.

They are now both part of the 2026 class.

Bowman is still the No. 1 TE for the 2026 class for 247Sports. He’s the No. 4 TE on the 247Sports Composite. The On3 Industry Ranking has quickly moved him to the No. 4 TE nationally for 2026.

Those numbers should continue to rise once Bowman hits the 7-on-7 evaluation circuit this spring.

Crowell is the No. 7 RB for the 247Sports Composite and the No. 15 RB for the On3 Industry Ranking.
