Twitter reacts to terrible first half for Georgia against Texas in Sugar Bowl
Whether motivation was a factor or not, Georgia football played one of its worst halves of the season in the first two quarters against Texas in the Sugar Bowl.
The Bulldogs gained just 118 yards in the first half, including only 29 rushing yards. In the first quarter, Texas outgained Georgia, 101-8.
On the very first possession, Texas drove right down the field and reached the end zone. It was the first deficit the Bulldogs have faced in the first quarter since playing Auburn in November.
Running back D’Andre Swift fumbled twice in the first half, one of which he lost and set up Texas with great field position. The Longhorns also started a drive in Bulldogs’ territory after the Bulldogs punter had his knee hit the ground before he released the punt.
At halftime, the Bulldogs trailed the Longhorns, who went 9-4 during the regular season, 20-7.
With such a disappointing first 30 minutes, Bulldogs supporters and critics had plenty to say on Twitter:
#CFBPlayoff Committee messed up, Georgia is clearly one of the 4 best teams in the state of Georgia.

Waiting for all the people railing against Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Washington, or UCF being discussed as playoff entrants in an 8-team field to comment on Georgia's current stinkbomb against a 9-4 runner-up from a mediocre conference.

Losing to LSU has now qualified Georgia for the Playoff and disqualified UCF from the Playoff, according to internet arguments

The good news for UCF is losing by 8 to LSU means it should be a playoff team by Georgia standards. https://t.co/BpmPQTfvHp

Georgia may be trying to argue they belonged in the #CFBPlayoff, but emulating Oklahoma's first half vs Bama probably isn't the best approach #SugarBowl

This isn't a good time to tweet about how Georgia got screwed by the playoff committee.
— Jeff Schultz (@JeffSchultzATL) January 2, 2019
Yeah Georgia definitely should’ve been in the playoff

Georgia had maybe the best CFB team ever beat with a trip to the playoffs in hand and let it slip away. To argue they aren’t amongst the top teams because they losing a meaningless bowl game to a decent not great team is dumb. Bowl games are about who cares and UGA doesn’t care.

Huh. So when Georgia players were all running their mouths on Twitter the other day, saying the playoff should involve the four "best teams," not the four most "deserving" were they talking about UCF? UCF looks a lot better against LSU than Georgia ever did when they played 🤔🤔

Georgia totally shoulda been in the college football playoff 🤣 #Jokes

Sooo this Georgia team was supposed to be in the playoffs right?! 😂😂 #SugarBowl

Yep. Georgia belonged in the playoffs. Just remember Georgia fans, Texas is 9-4. 4 losses before the bowl game.

Georgia looks more like an FCS playoff team to me

Here comes the “they came out flat/they were deflated after not making the playoff” narrative for Georgia from ESPN.
