Georgia’s Jacob Eason: ‘Trust the process’
ATHENS — The unexpected closing of Georgia’s practice on Wednesday left the media and public having to interpret a cryptic tweet.
Freshman quarterback Jacob Eason, the highly-talented fan favorite, posted Wednesday around 9 p.m.:
Trust in his plan. Trust the process. ??
— Jacob Eason (@skinnyqb10) September 1, 2016
That could have been about anything, of course. Eason could have been commenting on the troubles of the world – or he could have been obliquely referring to whatever plan there is for Georgia at quarterback in Saturday’s season opener against North Carolina. (Eason, for what it’s worth, is not a prolific tweeter, but when he is he’s not very serious, and rather light-hearted. He’s not been available to the media all preseason or even during spring practice, nor have any of the quarterbacks.)
Eason had been regarded as the favorite over the weekend, after taking most of the first-team snaps for the better part of two weeks. But Greyson Lambert was running first team on Monday and Tuesday during media viewing period, and while Wednesday was closed, indications were Lambert was again getting most first-team snaps.
No matter who starts, however, the prevailing feeling around the program has been that both Eason and Lambert would play – especially if Lambert is the starter, because Eason could then be eased in during his college debut.
Head coach Kirby Smart does not have any scheduled media sessions before Saturday’s game. He does have his new radio show on Thursday night, in which questions will be selected from social media submissions.
