UGA has offered one of the top quarterbacks out of Georgia.

Davis Mills, a 4-star junior from Greater Atlanta Christian high school, got a scholarship offer from UGA after making an unofficial visit with the Bulldogs on Tuesday.

“I kind of sensed things were going in that direction with Georgia,” GAC coach Tim Hardy said. “I’m excited for Davis. I know (new UGA offensive coordinator) Jim Chaney liked Davis when he was at Pitt. I know there’s a connection there. I’m just excited that Davis got the offer from the in-state school as he moves forward and makes his own decision.”

The 6-foot-3 Mills is rated as one of the nation’s top five pro-style quarterbacks for 2017. Mills hasn’t named any leaders, but Stanford and Michigan appear to be the schools to beat – and head coaches from both colleges stopped by the Gwinnett County private school in January to chat.

“Davis is obviously a fantastic quarterback … I think he’s as good as there is out there for 2017,” Hardy said. “He’s a complete quarterback in a lot of ways. The more you watch him, the more you like him. He can make a variety of throws, and he has a tremendous presence in the pocket.”

It could be a challenge for UGA to sign an elite quarterback behind Jacob Eason, the 5-star from Lake Stevens, Wash., who enrolled early in college with the Bulldogs last month.

Originally, UGA had a 2017 commitment from Bailey Hockman, the left-hander from McEachern High School (Ga.). Hockman later backed off his pledge. The Bulldogs are also courting Jake Fromm, the junior from Houston County (Ga.) High School who is committed to Alabama.
