ATHENS — Thanks for tuning in to the Zaxby’s Sound Off, where beat writers Seth Emerson and Chip Towers offer their thoughts on the Georgia football team. Each week your DawgNation writers offer up some thoughts on the Bulldogs — and this week a trip to the struggling Vanderbilt Commodores is on tap.
Chip and Seth deal with a number of topics, including the hype surrounding the Bulldogs in the national rankings, the game against Vanderbilt and the situation between Jake Fromm and Jacob Eason.
On where the Bulldogs stand: Chip comes out big and bold. “Georgia’s a top-5 team. Georgia’s ranked No. 5 in the country, which puts the Bulldogs in a lot of conversations now. Now those national boys are starting to look over here a little bit and go, ‘Hey, where are these Bulldogs at?’ And we like what we’ve seen. There’s a lot to like about this team, and there’s a lot to like about their matchup with Vanderbilt, but you still got to get … you still got to get through it, and you can’t just say it and do it, you have to go there and do it, and so that’ll be Georgia’s challenge this week, going up to Vanderbilt and taking on a team that beat them here last year.”
On Vanderbilt: Seth sums up the situation. “Vanderbilt does have a good defense, and they’ve got a pocket quarterback, possibly the best pure pocket quarterback [the Bulldogs have] faced to this point, which I still want to see how Georgia’s secondary does in those kinds of situations. But Georgia’s talent, just Jimmy’s and Joe’s overall, is just exponentially better overall, so that kind of takes … and in the overall view, Chip, for what you were saying. Honestly, I’m not surprised that this team is 5-0. Looking before the season, I kind of expected them to be at 5-0 looking at the schedule, but it’s the way they’ve done it.”
On Jake Fromm vs. Jacob Eason: Seth put this one in perspective. “Eason is not healthy enough for it to be a legitimate question at this point.”
There is plenty more, but you’ll have to watch to find out.
