ATHENS — Georgia’s new gymnastics head coach Courtney Kupets Carter will be earning less than her predecessor, and the school could be paying both coaches for three more years.
Kupets Carter will be made $160,000 annually, based on a salary action document provided by UGA on Thursday, in response to an open records request.
Danna Durante, the previous head coach, was earning $180,000 per year on a contract that ran through 2020. She was given a contract extension just last year, after her original contract took her through 2018, and paid her $175,000.
Durante was fired two weeks ago after five years as head coach, and her contract called for her to continue to be paid that base salary if she was fired without cause. (A copy of her termination letter has not been made available yet.)
Kupets Carter, 30, was announced as the GymDogs’ new head coach on Tuesday. She is the most accomplished gymnast in school history, but has very limited coaching experience.
Suzanne Yoculan, the legendary former GymDogs coach, is re-joining the team as a volunteer coach, which Yoculan said will be an unpaid position.
