ATHENS — It was two years ago, the last time Georgia played at Tennessee, that Justin Scott-Wesley tore his ACL covering a punt. The speedy and promising receiver was never quite able to get back to his old self, won’t be making the trip back to Knoxville, and will not play again for Georgia.

Scott-Wesley has indeed moved on from playing, according to a source familiar with his decision. Head coach Mark Richt confirmed it as well.

“He’s not gonna play this year,” Richt said on Wednesday.

Reached via e-mail, Scott-Wesley referred questions to the team’s athletics department. A fifth-year senior, Scott-Wesley is set to graduate in December.

Scott-Wesley finishes his career with 25 catches for 498 yards and four touchdowns. Two years ago, before his injury, he was on the verge of a breakout season, catching 16 passes for 311 yards in five games. Two of his biggest catches came in the biggest games: The game-winning touchdown catch against LSU, and an 85-yard touchdown against South Carolina to seal the victory.

Last season, Scott-Wesley returned to play in six games, catching three passes, including a touchdown. But he twice re-injured the knee this summer, the second time in the preseason. After briefly acting as a student assistant at Georgia practice, Scott-Wesley now spends most of his time away from the team, and has changed his Twitter profile to reflect a music career, not football.

“He’s doing well, from what I understand,” said Malcolm Mitchell, a fellow receiver and fifth-year senior. “He still comes around the team. But I think he’s doing well. He’s making decisions to help better himself in the future, in whatever area he decides to indulge in. So he’ll forever have my support. And I’ll always consider him a teammate.”
