Georgia (7-0, 4-0 SEC) had its worst defensive display of the season Saturday night against Missouri at Sanford Stadium, but it still managed a resounding 53-28 victory. With the win, the Bulldogs tightened their grip on the second spot in the SEC Country Power Poll.

The 2017 SEC Country Power Poll, consisting of 25 voters from around the SEC, placed Georgia in the No. 2 spot behind the Alabama Crimson Tide. This is the fifth consecutive week Georgia has been ranked second.

Despite staying put in the SEC Country Power Poll, Georgia did make moves in the traditional Top 25 polls, thanks to losses by Clemson and Washington this weekend. Georgia jumped from No. 4 to No. 3 in the AP poll and from No. 5 to No. 3 in the coaches poll.

The Georgia defense allowed 21 points from Missouri in the first quarter-plus of the contest Saturday, more points than it had allowed in a full game this year. But the offense picked up the slack to the tune of 696 total yards. Freshman quarterback Jake Fromm had the most productive game of this career, passing for 326 yards and scoring 3 total touchdowns.

“We did some poor things tonight that could get us beat in the future,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said. “We’ve got to continue to improve. Offensively, we still have series where we shoot ourselves in the foot. What if we execute at the highest level? Defensively, what if we keep the players in front of us? How good could we be? We’ll keep showing things to the players and hopefully get better.”

The undefeated Bulldogs now get a much-needed bye week to rest and recover before beginning the final legs of the 2017 season. Next up is the annual showdown with the Florida Gators on Oct. 28 in Jacksonville, Fla. The Gators are ranked No. 8 in the SEC Country Power Poll following a loss to Texas A&M.
