Georgia swimmer Gunnar Bentz has been detained by police in Brazil as he was attempting to leave the country after competing in the Olympic Games.

Bentz, a gold medal winner in Rio in the 4×200 freestyle relay, was removed from a flight along with teammate Jack Conger.

A judge in Brazil ordered the American swimmers along with teammates Ryan Lochte and  James Feigen to remain in the country so they could be interviewed about their claim that they were robbed at gunpoint on Sunday. Lochte already returned to the United States.

The O Globo website reported that police confiscated Bentz’s and Conger’s passports and that Lochte is suspected of filing a false report about being robbed and assaulted.

Lochte’s father told the Associated Press on Wednesday that his son had called him to tell him he was safely back in the U.S.
