ATHENS — There’s one less candidate to kick for the Georgia football team.

Mitchell Wasson, who walked on to the team last year, is no longer with the team, head coach Kirby Smart confirmed on Thursday.

“Mitchell’s not with us anymore,” Smart said.

Wasson originally committed to Alabama as a preferred walk-on, then flipped to Georgia after Smart arrived in Athens. He was expected to compete for the vacant place-kicking role, but William Ham won the job, and then Rodrigo Blankenship took over during the season.

Ham has since left the team. Blankenship will compete with graduate transfer David Marvin, who arrives this summer.
