Kirby Smart’s media appearances generally are straightforward. The coach knows what he wants to get across, he does that, and he leaves.
But every now and then Georgia’s head coach will let his sense of humor show and deliver a quick joke at the expense of one of his players, coaches, or media members.
On Wednesday during his appearance on 680 The Fan’s Buck and Kincade Show, co-hosted by Buck Belue, one of Georgia’s greats at the quarterback position, Smart described what he hope would come of Jake Fromm’s debut as the Bulldogs’ starter Saturday at Notre Dame.
That of course references Belue’s performance as the starting quarterback when Georgia defeated Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl to win the 1980 national championship.
In that game, Belue completed one of 12 passes for a grand total of seven yards. Georgia had a guy named Herschel Walker who carried the offensive load, running the ball 36 times for 150 yards and two touchdowns in the win.
Belue took the zinger in stride, though.
So all Jake Fromm has to do is throw for eight yards, Nick Chubb and Sony Michel combine for 150 yards and two scores, and the Bulldogs win, right?
