There are rumors swirling around the UGA program that the Bulldogs have two running backs that are committed, but the one public commit isn’t worried about it.
Elijah Holyfield, the 4-star recruit from Woodward Academy, told DawgNation that he hopes Devwah Whaley, a 4-star from Texas who is rumored to be silently committed to UGA, joins him in Athens.
“Last time I talked to Devwah was when he was going up to Georgia (on an official visit for the South Carolina game), Holyfield said. “I was just telling him, just let me know if you want to come play for us. Obviously, I want him to come play for us. I have never been shy about competition or anything like that. I feel like we can be two great backs together and hopefully he comes to Georgia, too.”
Like what Nick Chubb and Sony Michel have been for UGA this season, Holyfield thinks they could be the next one-two punch for the Bulldogs. The son of boxing legend Evander Holyfield had a chance to compete alongside Whaley during UGA’s Dawg Night prospect camp and was impressed with him.
If Whaley does decide to publicly announce his commitment to UGA at the Under Armour All-America game in January, Holyfield wouldn’t be worried about competing for a starting job because, like his dad, he has that boxer’s mentality in him.
“I think I’m better than any back in America,” Holyfield laughed. “I’ve never said anyone is better than me, but he’s good.”
In the video above, Holyfield answers the following questions:
1) He is coming back from a stress fracture in his foot. How is his recovery coming along? 2) Who are some other recruits that Holyfield is working on? 3) How has life changed for him now that he has committed to UGA? 4) How are the puppies that he brought out for his commitment ceremony doing?
