David Pollack tells Bulldogs what they can control
Georgia Bulldogs great David Pollack was in Athens on Wednesday, where he was seen taking in practice and talking with former Georgia teammate Odell Thurman. Pollack apparently also offered advice to the current crop of Bulldogs.
In a video released on the Georgia Football Twitter account, Pollack’s words of wisdom to the players about choosing to practice hard are interspersed with highlights from his college career, as well as some fantastic calls by the late, great Larry Munson.
“You have a choice every single day whether you want to bust it and whether you want to push through. Because I remember going into that stadium with 93,000 people, and I remember I was prepared, I put myself into position, and I played my ass off. You only control two things. You control your attitude — how you’re going to approach things — and you control your effort. And effort is an all-the-time thing, not just when I feel 100 percent. So, it’s a choice you guys get to make every day. So, when you get an opportunity today and for the rest of the season, go out there and make it on the practice field. Make it happen out there, and every single day bust it.”

More on Mecole Hardman’s future at Wildcat
Sophomore wide receiver Mecole Hardman was observed in practice last week running the offense out of the Wildcat formation. Coach Kirby Smart spoke about the use of Hardman, a former high school quarterback, during his appearance on the AM 680 The Fan’s show The Front Row and downplayed Hardman’s future in that role — to an extent.
“I’m not personally thinking that’s some great big old package,” Smart said. “It’s an answer. Maybe, if we lose a quarterback, we have to do that. Maybe, if Mecole does a good job, it’s something that somebody has to defend, and the more things you give somebody to defend, the more challenging it is. Hey, Mecole still has to prove that he can do it. How much we’re doing it really doesn’t matter.”
All in the family
Georgia tight end Charlie Woerner, nephew of Bulldogs great Scott Woerner, isn’t trying to live up to the name of his famous uncle. “I just want to be Charlie,” he said, according to Seth Emerson of DawgNation. To do that, he’ll need a few stellar years as a member of the Bulldogs himself, which means he’ll need to grow more comfortable at tight end. The younger Woerner played receiver in high school but made the switch to end upon arriving in Athens. He told Emerson of the difficulty he faced in adjusting to the new position during his freshman season.
“It was pretty difficult last year, trying to get down in a three-point stance every time. My hips were pretty sore to start off,” Woerner said. “It’s been an experience, for sure, but it’s been a lot of fun learning something new.”
No decision soon from 4-star former Dawgs commit
Don’t expect a commitment anytime soon from 4-star UGA target Adam Anderson. The linebacker from Rome, and a one-time Georgia commit, told Jeff Sentell of DawgNation that he plans to wait until after his senior season and into the new year before pledging to a school.
“I guess I might find myself kind of close to deciding after our season,” he told Sentell. “Probably after that year. I might wait it out a bit with our season. Probably after then. Right around January or February.”
