Jonathan Rogers, a 7-year-old with autism from Charlotte, N.C., thought he was going to have a normal day at school. Instead, he got a day with his hero: Thomas Davis.
The former Georgia Bulldog and current Carolina Panthers linebacker surprised Rogers at school this week, WBTV’s Molly Grantham reports. The visit was organized by Dream on 3, a non-profit that grants wishes for young children with medical conditions.
Davis took Rogers to Bank of America Stadium to see the Panthers’ locker room. Then they went to Davis’ house and played basketball and video games.
However, Davis actually wasn’t Rogers’ first choice. When Grantham asked him who he’d most like to meet at a Dream for 3 event a few weeks ago, Rogers said, “Jesus.”
But it looks like he was still satisfied meeting the former Bulldog instead. And Davis enjoyed it as well.
“Being in the position we’re in as professional athletes, I feel like it’s our duty and our job to reach back and interact with the community,” Davis said afterwards. “Days like today put everything really into perspective for me.”
