The UGA gymnastics team, boosted by one of the best individual performances in school history, are headed to the NCAA Championships.

At Saturday night’s NCAA Athens Regional, the GymDogs finished with the second-highest team score (198.050) , trailing only Oklahoma (198.475).

The highlight of the night was UGA sophomore Marissa Oakley, who posted a perfect score of a 10 on the bars – the first time a Georgia gymnast has posted that in 20 years. The team score of 198.050 was the highest of the season for the GymDogs.

“We’re peaking at the right time,” Georgia coach Courtney Kupets Carter said. “There were so many amazing moments, it’s hard to describe which one is the best… (Oakley’s 10.000) is so meaningful to me.”

UGA finished ahead of Cal (197.675) and Kentucky (197.600). The top four teams from Saturday’s regionals advanced to the NCAA Championships, which will be held April 19-20 in Fort Worth, Texas.
