Georgia football coach Kirby Smart met with the media on Tuesday night to discuss a number of topics. One of those was on the health status of running back James Cook.
Smart said that Cook is not at 100 percent right now as he tries to comeback from offseason ankle surgery.
“He’s not hitting his GPS marks that he was before. He’s not complaining a bit. He was electric last year in practices and especially in fall camp. He’s just not 100 percent.”
Cook missed the Sugar Bowl game against Texas with an injury. Smart estimated that Cook is at about 90 percent healthwise. Last season Cook finished with 284 rushing yards on 41 carries. He also caught 8 passes for Georgia as well. Smart did mention that Cook is working as a punt and kick returner in practice.
Two Georgia players missed practice on Tuesday but it was not injury related. Outside linebackers Brenton Cox and Robert Beal were both arrested on with less than one ounce of marijuana, according to the Athens-Clarke County jail booking recap report.
