Georgia fans have been excited about 5-star defensive end Nolan Smith, but that enthusiasm is about to ramp up even more.
Smith was among the elite prospects at The Opening regional in Atlanta on Sunday morning, and he put on an absolute show. His testing numbers — including a 4.51 40-yard dash — stood out among his peers.
Smith rated in the 99th percentile of all 2019 prospects in the 40-yard dash, vertical, peak power, agility and power ball. His 40-yard dash time is especially impressive considering his size — he is 6-foot-3, and 234 pounds.
That 141.18 Sparq rating is higher than any 2018 UGA signee managed a year ago. Channing Tindall was the closest at 125.75.
Smith was expected to test well. Last month, he tweeted out his recent testing marks and they compared favorably to many of the top pass rushers who worked out at the NFL combine.
He was also impressive on the field and dominated several early reps:
Georgia is clearly getting a special athlete in Smith.
